We all have them. I often apologize to our children for whatever their father issues are going to be. None of us are perfect, even Adam and Eve rebelled and they did have the perfect Father. I hope the key to minimizing the pain and damage our children experience because I’m unable to accurately represent the same perfect love their Heavenly Father has for them, is the ability to admit it. To own up to my shortcomings and point them to The One who truly is able to love them in the completely unique and totally fulfilling way their hearts yearn for.

Hiding our shortcomings, our struggles, our insecurities or our fears only gives them power over us. Bringing them into the open, sharing them with someone you trust and who is not afraid to be honest about their’s weakens the hold they have and is the beginning of true change.
Yes, you’re better

This one touches on the same topic as yesterday, comparison. Maybe at times we use comparison as an excuse to keep our distance from God but as we said before this isn’t coming from Him. He wants us to be different. He wants us to celebrate our uniqueness. Unfortunately we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others as a means of finding our worth. We look for the flaws in those around us in order to make ourselves feel better about our own. The good news is that’s not how God looks at us at all. He sees all of the good in us and isn’t afraid of the things that aren’t there yet. He thinks the very best of us at all times without comparison. So instead of saying Yes, you’re better. He saying, ” You’re so special, just the way I made you, you’re completely one of a kind and I couldn’t love you more. Find your worth in Me and stop looking for it elsewhere.”

God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. When we humbly give our weakness to Him it transforms us into people with compassion for others. When we are aware of our shortcomings it frees us to see beyond the faults of those around us. It’s common for us to try to hide our weakness by amplifying the flaws of others, which only closes us off from God and the people He wants us to love. But people not afraid to share their weaknesses are a demonstration of His power.
Hate

Scripture says, “Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you. Rebuke a wise man and he will love you.” The wise man is one who has seen the love of God, the one who understands that they have faults and wants to overcome them. Identifying people’s shortcomings is something we need to be invited into if we want them to hear. Correction only works if it’s backed up by love.
