“Don’t run after fame and glory for yourself, thinking that such things are the way God keeps score. They aren’t. God doesn’t keep score at all. Such things are not God’s gifts to you. Instead, be generous, loving, gracious, and kind, for it is in these things that God reveals Himself to you, and reveals Himself to others through you.”

Jeremy Myers

Religion’s greatest power is found in the fear of rejection.

Dialogue is twice as good as a monologue.

Accountability, Apostle, authority and anointed. If you find yourself in a religious environment that uses these words frequently I encourage you to make a change. These words are very often used to wield power and control, something Jesus never wanted for Himself and certainly not for others to have over us. That’s not who He is or what He wants in fact what He wants is nothing more than to love us as the individuals He made us to be, to be loved in return and to literally walk through each and every day with us, good times and bad. Jesus is calling us into fellowship not forcing us to followship.

Anointed literally means rubbed with oil. Scripture figuratively uses the term to strictly reference the Holy Spirit’s interaction in, around, through and upon a person. Anointing is not intended to bring glory to an individual or to indicate superiority.

Authority is not something we are to have over others, in fact think about the word over for a minute. Spiritual authority is something we give to others when they’ve proven they can be trusted and kept when trust is maintained. It’s also a great thing to share.

Paul’s list of qualifications for the office of apostle is extremely narrow while the definition of the word itself is broad enough to include all who love Jesus. This doesn’t add up to a privileged position in the church between God and His people.

Your Power

Lord help me stay close to you today, fill me with your power when needed and don’t let me get bogged down in the little things at the expense of Your things. Allow me to draw from your love for me in order to love those nearby well.

I hope your thoughts of mom evoke the same feelings for you as mine do for me. So often God uses our moms as a huge portion of His incredible love for us, I’m so grateful that’s the case for me, thank you Mom.

I know this isn’t true for everyone and it’s unfortunate that for some thinking of mom is not a happy endeavor. I hate that, but I also know that when this is the case there is still hope. I’ve seen many difficult relationships with moms become wonderful; I’ve seen mother figures come into someone’s life when restoration was not possible and most incredibly I’ve seen and experienced Jesus’ amazing love as maternal and nurturing just as powerfully as His paternal and guiding love.

We all have ’em, why do we try to hide them from each other instead of sharing them and seeing their power taken away?
