While scripture may not specifically say, “God will never give you more than you can handle”, it’s certainly evident throughout that with Him anything is possible, that in Him there is always hope and that all things work together for good to those who love God. So while He never promised us a life free of *trouble, He has assured us that if we’ll include Him, we’ll not only get through the difficulty but actually come out the other side closer to Him and better able to trust Him the next time life gets hard.

*Philippians 1:29 For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake

Jesus says, with God all things are possible even those things considered impossible for us. The key here is the “with God” part. So if He says do it, what do we have to fear? We can be daring when we’re following God’s lead and walking with Him moment by moment.

One of the more subtle distractions in our lives is performance, most especially religious performance. Somehow “with God” gets interpreted as “for God” and we run off ahead doing everything we can for Him. Spoiler alert: God doesn’t need us to do for Him. With Him everything is possible, nothing too small, nothing too big. For Him leads to futility and burden, for Him can never be enough but with Him is more than we could ever imagine.

God has the way prepared for you today and hopes that you will face everything together. There will be some difficulties but in Him you will see them as opportunities. He promises peace and rest no matter how rough things may look. With Him all is possible.

It’s doable, to put nagging issues behind us for good. We can learn to recognize our insecurities before they set in, call them out for what they are and not allow them to affect those around us. God wants to help us with this if we’ll let Him. It comes down to trust, are we going to try to handle it again on our own or are we going to give it to Him?

Jesus says, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Our only hope for healing and wholeness is with God. He must be the source of our strength; there is no power apart from Him. We may gain temporary relief from the things we do ourselves but there’s no lasting effect. We’ve merely put a band-aid on something that requires a surgeon.

Scripture doesn’t specifically say God won’t give you more than you can handle, but the concept is there. He is always the answer to whatever difficulty may befall us. With Him all things are possible, with Him nothing is impossible, so the answer is, let’s go through this with Him. When things get really, really rough together we can not only get through but flourish.

Opportunities? A dear friend of mine calls every challenge that comes his way an opportunity. He sees them as a chance to learn something, to grow, to address a problem or change something that needs to be changed. I love his attitude.

The Bible says to count it all joy when we come upon trials in our lives. If we look at things the way my friend does it makes this possible. Ultimately what every challenge provides us is an opportunity to trust God. If we worry, get anxious or try to force things apart from Him, that’s not trusting. If we can face our setbacks knowing that God wants the very best for us, and if we seek Him for what can be gained, that’s the “peace that passes all understanding”.

The scriptures say, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” I think we read that and think it means that for God nothing is impossible, which of course is true but that’s not what’s being said. It’s saying that for us anything is possible when we’re with Him.
