Please keep in mind that I am merely offering an opinion here, one intended to spur you to thought. This is the case with everything you read at The Better Thing.

Religion is man’s contrived, organized attempt to make himself right with God. We should know better as Jesus taught extensively against this, yet still… One of the things that go hand in hand with this attempt by man to control God is for man to control others. While this in no way further endears us, somehow we think the more people we can get to buy into our system the more pleased we’ll make Him.

Though we often hear differently, others opinions are just that, opinions. They may hold a fraction of truth but that doesn’t make them the whole truth. We do need to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water but the bath water still needs to be thrown out. So don’t let someone’s misguided judgment inhibit the truth the rest of us know about you, you’re amazing, God says so and we can see it.

People seem more and more critical with each passing day. Our opinions count like never before. We get to choose the next singing star, let the world know our current thought or activity and give reviews on everything from vacation destinations to potato peelers. One unfortunate result of this is that we are looking for what is wrong with everything. Finding the weaknesses in things or people is way too easy. Nothing is perfect, everything has faults. I want to try the more difficult task of finding the strengths in people, seeing the good that’s there and letting that be known.
