Someday

A faith focused on “someday” is the equivalent of “not today Lord”.

Love, serve, feel, give, care, share, touch, say yes, smile, listen, trust, be dependable, go out of your way, think, pray, love, serve…

Not to the deafening noise we’re constantly surrounded by but to the still small voice of our Lord. He has much to say to you today, Give Him your attention.

You need to… is usually a poor way to continue a conversation. Listening is becoming more and more of a lost art.

Have you noticed how little listening takes place these days? Everyone has something to say but few are able or willing to listen. A pause in the middle of a story is the perfect opportunity to jump in with what I’ve been thinking about while you’ve been talking. We all have so much to learn from each other maybe we should listen more.

Yesterday we talked about finding or making some time to get away from the noise and distraction in the world around us in order to connect more closely with God, which we know is no easy task. But what might be even more difficult is once we’ve found a time or place that’s quiet around us, to get our minds and thoughts to be still. How can we listen for what God has to say if our quiet time is filled with us speaking to Him? It’s far better to give our thoughts over to Him and listen to what He has to say than to run through a list of what’s on our mind or ask for what we want. It’s certainly okay to take our concerns to the Lord but hearing back is really good too.

One of the most difficult things to find in the world we live in is quiet time. Interruptions are everywhere and everything is urgent. It also seems that the more we look for the interruptions and accept the urgency, their frequency only increases. It is so important to make or take some time today to be still, to shut the world out for a time and connect with our God. When we do this somehow the world slows down and we are so much more equipped to help others navigate the craziness of their lives.

Don’t let the busyness of the world around you keep you from taking the Lord into every aspect of your day. Slow down enough to listen, He wants to share with you. The day God has planned for you is far better than the day you have planned for yourself. Don’t be afraid of getting off the beaten path and don’t get frustrated by interruptions that alter your well planned day. Chances are they are opportunities He has brought your way. Love those near you well.

Scripture says we’re to be anxious for nothing, really, nothing? Does God know how many things come our way each day that are really worthy of worrying about? I mean big things. And we don’t need to get worked up about them? Could it be true? The only way to know for sure is to give it a try. Is God real enough, does He care enough and is He big enough to meet us right here, come beside us and take on our worries, fears and concerns? It’s not easy; too often I’ll trust Him with something only to take it back upon myself only to find restlessness and unease. The better I get at leaving those things in His hands the more peace and ultimately resolution I find. I pray this for you today.

We’ve spent the last few weeks talking about hearing from God. We’ve explored the possibility, looked at how the concept has been misused and then concluded that it wouldn’t make sense for us to have a God that desires a personal relationship with us if He was unwilling to speak with us. We’ve touched on a number of things we can be sure we’re hearing from Him and even looked at some we can be sure are not being said by Him. The only thing left to do is listening. Let’s set some time aside today to quiet our minds, boot out those things we know are a distraction and see what we might hear from Him. He has things to share with you today.
