I see two ways you can read this headline: Wow, you’re right I’m not or You’re crazy, I’m killin’ it.

To be clear, I’m not talking about sports or things that actually are competitive. I’m talking about life and of the two reactions above the first is the honest one and the second is a cover up. Deep down there’s a part of each of us that feels like we’re losing, maybe not always but certainly at times. The saddest thing about this is that we’re doing this to each other. This world has a way of pitting us against each other under the illusion that if I can prove I’m better than you or at least convince others I am, then maybe I’ll start to believe it myself and If I really dominate, it may even come true.

The truth is, you’re not winning but the great news is you’re not losing. Life is not a competition, it’s a collaboration. We have nothing to lose by lifting people up. Caring, supporting and valuing others is infinitely more fulfilling than spinning our wheels trying to be superior. If you want to feel great about yourself today, make someone else feel especially loved.

If you sincerely want to know The One that made you, The One responsible for all you see and infinitely beyond, The One that proved His unique love for you by becoming one of us and sacrificing everything then open your heart and say hello. He’s right there waiting to be invited into your life, your day and even more so into this moment. The only thing keeping you from Him is you. Don’t be afraid; don’t let others complicate this for you. God is bigger!

My wife and I met a guy named John the other day. We could have talked to John for hours about nearly anything because you could easily tell that he cared. He was secure in who he is and simply confident about life. At one point in the conversation he told my wife how much he loved God. We weren’t surprised in fact we already knew. John’s love for God was all over him. At one point quite a ways into our encounter John told us about his eleven year old son that has leukemia. Sometime later we asked about other children and heard about his newborn son who two weeks before was in the NIC Unit due to major complications at birth. The complications were a huge medical issue for John’s wife too. In fact at one point in the last few weeks his wife was at one hospital while his sons where at different hospitals in another city. None of them were within twenty miles of their home.

At no time did John indicate anything other than joy! He had every reason to be down and good reason to doubt yet his excitement for God was amazingly contagious. We loved how he told us about his Lord not his church because it’s personal. His trust was infectious. We can all learn from John and people like him.

John’s wife and baby are home doing well, will you please pray for their older son Toby?

God’s always moving, always at work but much of the time we don’t get to see it. It’s best that way. On those occasions when it’s clearly Him there’s nothing better, especially when He uses you to touch someone’s heart. One sure way to have your view obstructed again is to start to think you’re all that. Special and unique, which you are, is not the same as better.

Appreciation

Lord help me have a thankful heart, help me have an infinite appreciation for who you are, what you have done and how deeply you love me.

I started writing here about a year and a half ago and the first post was titled, “If I could tell you just one thing.” And pretty much every day since I’ve tried to let you know how much God loves you. Sometimes I wonder if the redundancy has a place but each day I’m reminded that for some reason grasping His amazing love for us is a daily endeavor. So, today I want you to know with certainty that your God loves you, not because He made you, not because you believe in Him and certainly not because you’ve earned it. He loves you because you are unique and one of a kind and that’s the only love that truly is enough to fill our hearts.

Lord help me see the people around me and the situations I find myself in today, with Your eyes. Give me Your heart, Your compassion and Your wisdom so I might love like You do. Please give me Your perspective on what’s happening and help me grasp the briefness of our time here in light of eternity. I love You.

The passionate pursuing love of God must be proclaimed in season and out of season. Forceful emphasis must be placed on the tenderness and mercy of God, who first loved us. Instead of a light volley of divine love followed by the heavy artillery of rule-keeping, Jesus’ love for the unlovely must pierce the heart of every Christian. –

Somehow devotion has become something that we do instead of something that we have. Our devotion to God should be a condition of our hearts, much more than something to be checked off of a list each day. But with that said, a daily time of worship can be a beautiful thing. Having a place and time set aside to really meet with God, to be honest, real and especially to listen, is vital. He is completely devoted to you allow Him some time to prove it.

“…As the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” We are not made to be cisterns purposed to contain the waters of life. We are to be springs continually being fed and poured out on those around us.
