Faith, hope, belief, conviction, confidence, expectation, reliance, dependence; these words you’ll find in the thesaurus under trust. None of them can replace it but all of them are aspects of trust yet don’t encompass its depth. There are very few things as important to a healthy relationship.

That’s what I want to do Lord. No matter how hard, regardless of what will be said, please give me the strength, the wisdom and the confidence to trust that you know best.

Where will we place our confidence today? When we take it upon ourselves we find worry, fear and uncertainty. When we place it in God we get peace, joy and assurance.

Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. How cool is that? We can fulfill this promise by walking closely with Him, hearing God’s voice and having the courage and confidence to do what He says. Jesus didn’t go around picking His own miracles to perform. He simply listened and did it.

Confidence and humility are often thought of as opposites. This is not the case. True confidence, the kind we talked about yesterday, only comes through humility. When we know that we can rely on God we are truly secure. But this means that we have to relinquish relying on ourselves, that’s humility. When it’s all up to me, fear and doubt prevail. When it’s He and I together, peace and assurance reign.

One of the attributes others will see in us when our foundation is set in God’s wonderful love is confidence. Not in ourselves but in Him. It’s self-reliance that leads to anxiety and rightfully so. But trust in God brings sureness like no other. We are no longer led by doubt, fear and uncertainty. Sure those things will try to creep back in but we don’t have to make a place for them.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” The perspective we mentioned yesterday, trusting that Jesus not only did but will do whatever it takes for us, is our confidence.
