The sun will rise, the sun will set and we’ll take much of what’s in-between for granted too.

Or,

The sunrise will be spectacular, one like never before, the beginning of a completely new day full of once in a lifetime opportunities. We’ll look for ways to share the specialness of the gift this day is with people God sends our way and we’ll be amazed by the completely unique sunset that once again reveals how incredibly much God loves us.

I met a gentleman named Bob and a beautiful lady named Dot the other day. They were out on the porch of an assisted living facility I was visiting. Their joy and appreciation for life was infectious. They told me that the best things in life really are free. They said they couldn’t possibly have asked for a morning as beautiful as this and they marveled at how fresh everything was as a result of last night’s storm. They each took a genuine interest me and freely shared about themselves. They told me to cherish each moment and not to forsake the present for the future.  I want to be like Bob and Dot.

Today is going to have its unexpected turns. You’ll be faced with fear, doubt and the desire to take matters into your own hands. There will be evidence that says you’re unloved, disrespected and unwanted. Fear not, at each of these turns you have the opportunity to give them to The Lord and the chance to trust that they’re better dealt with by Him. You see, nothing takes God by surprise so what could be better than to walk through this day completely with and in Him?

Scripture says that God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty. Why then are we so afraid of our weaknesses? Why is it so easy to find and point out the weaknesses of those around us in order to feign might? If we will grasp the truth of God’s unique love for us, how because it is completely different from His love for anyone else we can put aside our insecurities and stop trying to elevate ourselves by comparison to others. If we could see ourselves as well as others, the way God sees us, what a wonderful world it would be.

We all have them. I often apologize to our children for whatever their father issues are going to be. None of us are perfect, even Adam and Eve rebelled and they did have the perfect Father. I hope the key to minimizing the pain and damage our children experience because I’m unable to accurately represent the same perfect love their Heavenly Father has for them, is the ability to admit it. To own up to my shortcomings and point them to The One who truly is able to love them in the completely unique and totally fulfilling way their hearts yearn for.

If your dad was nothing like the father we described yesterday, I’m sorry. Don’t let your dad define your God. Your dad’s inability to love you well is not a reflection of you in any way and does not mean you’re unlovable. The intimacy we talked about yesterday between you and God is not only possible it’s what He wants more than anything. Don’t be afraid, if you come to Him with open arms he will always pick you up and love you.

Is there anything better than when your child needs you to hold them, whisper love and blessings to them and just sit still together? I more than imagine it’s the same for the Lord. Nothing brings Him more joy than when we come to Him, fall into His arms, give our burdens to Him and just sit still allowing His love to cover it all. If you could see the smile He gets when He thinks of you.

God is incredible and His love for us so perfect, may we worship Him today like never before. I pray you are able to gather with friends and family and celebrate our marvelous Lord.

Lord help me see the people around me and the situations I find myself in today, with Your eyes. Give me Your heart, Your compassion and Your wisdom so I might love like You do. Please give me Your perspective on what’s happening and help me grasp the briefness of our time here in light of eternity. I love You.

I have a couple of friends that are really struggling right now and I want more than anything for them to know that it’s going to be alright, no not just alright, it’s going to be great. God loves you and cares deeply about the exact situation you’re in. He wants nothing more than to give you comfort in the middle of this mess, situation, pit or ordeal. You can absolutely trust Him so quit trying to figure it all out on your own. It may feel hopeless right now, He’s your hope. A part from Him it is hopeless. Please invite Him in, there’s peace to be had even if the circumstances don’t change right away. God’s at work, let Him.
