We can all relate to the younger brother in Jesus’ story from the book of Luke. After all, we’ve all been in rebellion, sought for ourselves and disregarded those around us at some point. I hope another way that we identify with this character is that we have realized the emptiness of a selfish life and that we’ve returned to the arms of a loving Father.

It’s doable, to put nagging issues behind us for good. We can learn to recognize our insecurities before they set in, call them out for what they are and not allow them to affect those around us. God wants to help us with this if we’ll let Him. It comes down to trust, are we going to try to handle it again on our own or are we going to give it to Him?

Scripture says, “Stand fast in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” We don’t have to let the same old things keep us from the freedom God intends for us. Standing fast means putting the burden in His hands and leaving it there.

How was yesterday? If it was all you wanted it to be, the great news is that today can be just as remarkable. If your yesterday could have been better, the also great news is that today is a brand new opportunity to walk closer with Him than ever before.

Do you remember the best day you and God ever had together? Today could top that if you choose. Or if you can’t think when that was, this could be the day. Right now invite Him to go with you through every moment, ask Him to remind you when you start to drift away and look for His input into every situation you find yourself in. Today can be remarkable if you let it.

” Jesus I adore you, I lay my life before you, how I love you…” God wants to put a song in our hearts, let’s listen for it today.

God becoming one of us is no less an act of His perfect love than His death and resurrection. Today we rejoice that he came but let’s also celebrate that He is here, that He loves each of us uniquely and that His greatest desire is to be included in all that we are and all that we do. Merry Christmas, you are so loved.

One of the best gifts we give is our time and attention. That’s one of the things that make this time of year so special, slowing down and enjoying each other. Now that we’ve worn ourselves out making everything just right, let’s let our loved ones know how special they are to us.

Gift

The root of the word gift is give, not get.

Well, not really but it could be. If we’ll allow God into the difficulty or situation that’s troubling us, the good will be found. He wants the very best for us and has promised to show us what that is if we will let Him. He loves to take the crap in our lives and turn it into something wonderful.
